OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
WHEREAS: December is General Aviation Appreciation Month; and
WHEREAS, General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS, Zanesville, Ohio has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, according to the 2014 Ohio Airports Economic Impact Study, general aviation airports in Ohio support 17, 497 jobs, $688 million in annual payroll and contribute more than $1.8 billion to the state’s economy. According to the same source, fractional aircraft companies, including NetJets, MaxFlight, and Flight Options employ more than 1,400 Ohio workers; and
WHEREAS, Ohio has a total of 150 public-use general aviation airports, serving 15, 586 pilots and 6,319 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, the City of Zanesville is proud of our own Zanesville Municipal Airport and how well it functions and we depend on it for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, that I, Jeff Tilton, Mayor of the City of Zanesville, do hereby proclaim the month of December as “General Aviation Appreciation Month” for the City of Zanesville and the State of Ohio and encourage all citizens to join us in its observance.
