CITY OF WICHITA FALLS PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of many citizens, especially those who operate businesses and farms, as well as providing essential services that ensure the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our region and areas throughout the state; and,
WHEREAS, the state of Texas has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, aviation organizations and educational institutions and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, general aviation in Texas supports more the 56,000 jobs, generates $14.6 billion in economic activity annually, and plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, according to the FAA, there are 391 public-use airports in state serving 49,616 pilots and 18,5000 active general aviation aircraft.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Glenn Barham, Mayor of Wichita Falls, do hereby proclaim November 2015, as
GENERAL AVIATION APRPECIATION MONTH
in Wichita Falls, and I call upon all citizens to remember the vital strategic resource and economic boon that general aviation provides to the State of Texas and to our community.
