Whereas, there are 392 public use airports in Texas, serving approximately 17,595 aviation aircraft (including over 1,00 crop dusters and close to 1,100 helicopters) with approximately 6.1 million general aviation operations occurring annually at Texas Airports; and,
Whereas, General Aviation supports an estimated $14.6 billion in economic activity annually with Texas also being the home to charter flight companies, repair stations and flight schools; and,
Whereas, the statistics show the extent that General Aviation and community airports play, having critical roles in the lives of citizens, as well as in the operations of businesses and farms; and,
Whereas, many communities depend heavily on General Aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to the state.
Now therefore, I, Glenn Barham, Mayor of Wichita Falls, do hereby proclaim November, 2014, as
General Aviation Appreciation Month
in Wichita Falls, and I call upon all citizens to acknowledge the many contributions that General Aviation makes for public benefits to our community and to the state, supporting more than 56,000 jobs, playing a vital role in response to emergencies and natural disasters, and helping businesses and travel run smoothly.
