    WHEREAS: the city of Wausau has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation and local airports, including Wausau Downtown Airport, have an immense economic impact on the city of Wausau; and

    WHEREAS: Wisconsin is home to 131 public-use airports that serve 9,503 pilots and 5,694 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS: the state is home to 48 repair stations and 7 FAA-Approved pilot schools, 1,610 students pilots and 1,604 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation contributes an annual economic impact of $694 million to Wisconsin’s economy and supports 9,390 jobs; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation not only supports Wisconsin’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare service, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, James E. Tipple,
    may of the City of Wausau, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the city of Wausau and declare the month of

    to be

    General Aviation Appreciation Month.
