    General Aviation Appreciation Month 2016

    WHEREAS, the City of Waukesha in the State of Wisconsin has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Waukesha County Airport have an immense economic impact on the city of Waukesha; and

    WHEREAS, Wisconsin is home to 119 public-use airports,which serve 9,278 pilots and 4,485 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Wisconsin is home to 85 fixed-base operators, 48 repair stations, 574 heliports, 7 FAA-Approved pilot schools, 1,587 flight students and 1,577 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation airports in Wisconsin contributes over $694 million to the state’s annual economic impact; and

    WHEREAS; “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” will take place in Wisconsin July 25-31, 2016, as people from across the world converge to take part in the Experimental Aircraft Association’s “AirVenture Oshkosh;”

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Wisconsin’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Shawn Reilly, Mayor of the City of Waukesha, do hereby proclaim general aviation and the Waukesha County Airport vital strategic resources to the City of Waukesha and declare July as
