    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses, industry, ranches, and farms; and

    WHEREAS, the state of Washington has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports, and airport operations; and

    WHEREAS, Washington State has 134 public use airports serving 18,727 pilots and 9201 general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, public use airports support 248,500 jobs, $15.3 billion in wages, and $50.9 billion in total economic activity; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters and many communities depend on it for the continued flow of commerce and tourists; and

    WHEREAS, Washington is home to 45 charter flight companies, 110 repair stations, and 31 flight schools operating 151 aircraft and providing 310 jobs as well as 62 fixed-based operators in the state; and

    WHEREAS, organizations including the Washington Airport Management Association,  Washington Pilot’s Association, Washington Public Ports Association, Recreational Aviation Foundation, Washington Seaplane Pilots Association, Washington Community Airports Association, Alliance for Aviation Across Aamerica, Pacific Northwest Business Aviation Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Air Transportation Association and Balloon Federation of America recognize and promote the interests and importance of aviation in our state and throughout the world.

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jerry Cummins, Mayor of Walla Walla, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the state of Washington and wish to declare June 2015 as:

    General Aviation Appreciation Month
