    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses, industry, ranches, and farms; and

    WHEREAS, the state of Washington has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, community airports, and airport operators; and

    WHEREAS, Washington State has 134 public use airports serving 19,044 pilots and 9,112 general aviation activity; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters and many communities depend on it for the continued flow of commerce and tourists; and

    WHEREAS, Washington is home to 44 charter flight companies, 113 repair stations, and 28 flight schools operating 151 aircraft and providing 391 jobs as well as 64 fixed-based operators in the state; and

    WHEREAS, organizations including the Washington Airport Management Association, Washington Pilot’s Association, Washington Public Ports Association, Recreational Aviation Foundation, Washington Seaplane Pilots Association, Washington Community Airports Association, Alliance for Aviation Across America, Pacific Northwest Business Aviation Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Air Transportation Association and Ballon Federation of America recognize and promote the interests and importance of aviation in our state and throughout the world.

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Jerry Cummins, Mayor of Walla Walla, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the State of Washington and wish to declare June 2014 as :
