    Proclamation

    WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as the operation of our cities, counties, and businesses; and

    WHEREAS, the state of Mississippi and the City of Tupelo has a significant interest in the vitality of general aviation, which has an economic impact of $860 million in the state of Mississippi; and

    WHEREAS, the state of Mississippi is home to 78 public use airports, 4,247 pilots, 2,543 active general aviation aircraft, 23 repair stations, 5 flight schools, 51 fixed-based operators, and 250 heliports; and

    WHEREAS, a great many businesses and communities in Mississippi depend upon general aviation aircraft and small aircraft of all types for access to medical treatment, mobility, economic opportunity, disaster relief and a wide range of critical resourcs.

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Jason L. Shelton, Mayor of the City of Tupelo in the State of Mississippi do hereby proclaim February 2014 as:

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Tupelo, MS to be affixed this 31st day of January, 2014
