    Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana, Texas

    “General Aviation Appreciation Month”

    February 2016

    WHEREAS, the Cities of Texarkana, Arkansas and Texarkana Texas have a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Texarkana Regional Airport have an immense economic impact of the two Cities; and

    WHEREAS, according to the FAA, Arkansas has 91 public-use airports, which serve 5,048 pilots and 3,053 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, according to the Arkansas State Airport System Plan, general aviation airports in Arkansas support an economic value of more than $494 million annually; and

    WHEREAS, according to the Arkansas State Airport System Plan, more than 77 percent of all annual airport operations in the state are attributable to general aviation; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only support Arkansas’ economy, it improve overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting, and disaster relief and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS; the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.

    NOW, THEREFORE, We, Ruth Penney Bell, Mayor of the City of Texarkana, Arkansas and Bob Bruggeman, Mayor of the City of Texarkana, Texas, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to he Cities and declare in our communities February as

    “GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH”
