    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH 2016

    WHEREAS, the Borough of Teterboro in the State of New Jersey has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Teterboro Airport have an immense economic impact on the Borough of Teterboro; and

    WHEREAS, according to the FAA, New Jersey has 43 public-use airports that serve 9,004 pilots and 2,379 active general aviation aircraft. According to the 2006 New Jersey State Airport System Plan, New Jersey’s public use airports support more than 2.5 million general aviation operations each year;

    WHEREAS, FAA data shows that the state is home to 64 repair stations, 9 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,885 student pilots, and 1,607 flight instructors. In addition, there are 34 fixed base operators in the state;

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports New Jersey’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, John P. Watt, Mayor of the Borough of Teterboro, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the Borough of Teterboro and declare February as

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
