WHEREAS, General aviation and Joe Foss Field/Sioux Falls Regional Airport play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses;
WHEREAS, The City of Sioux Falls has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions, aviation organizations, public airports, and airport operators;
WHEREAS, Sioux Falls has the largest and most utilized airport in the state of South Dakota, and has two fixed-base operators- Landmark Aviation and Maverick Air Center- serving 93 based aircraft and facilitation of over 53,000 general aviation operations annually;
WHEREAS, General aviation contributes to Sioux Falls economy and medical care, and boosts economic development for Sioux Falls and surrounding communities;
WHEREAS, From the 2010 State Aviation System Plan, general and commercial aviation at Joe Foss Field/Sioux Falls Regional Airport supports nearly $209 million in business sales, including over $91 million in personal income and over 2,200 jobs;
WHEREAS, General aviation is integral to the city’s response to emergencies and natural disasters, as well as a key component of business at Joe Foss Field/Sioux Falls Regional Airport;
WHEREAS, Sioux Falls depends heavily on general aviation and Joe Foss Field/Sioux Regional Airport for the continued flow of commerce, tourists, and visitors to our city and state;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mike T. Huether, Mayor of the City of Sioux Falls, do hereby proclaim June 2015 as:
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in Sioux Falls.
