WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as the operation of our cities, parishes, and businesses in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Louisiana contributes more than $2 billion annually to the state’s economy; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 62 public-use airports, 9,562 pilots, 4,891 active general aviation aircraft, 35 repair stations, 8 flight schools, 60 fixed-based operators, and 520 heliports; and
WHEREAS, aviation not only drives Louisiana’s economy, it improves our overall quality of life by providing vital emergency medical transportation, enhancing public safety by assisting law enforcement, and transporting business and leisure travelers to their destinations quickly and safely;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Cedric B. Glover, Mayor of the city of Shreveport, do hereby proclaim February 2014 as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
In the City of Shreveport, and urge all citizens to appreciate the value and importance of general aviation.
