Whereas, General aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
Whereas, The state of Missouri has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and community operators; and
Whereas, The state of Missouri boasts 115 public-use general aviation airports, serving 9,087 pilots and 3,953 active general aviation aircraft; and
Whereas, The Missouri Department of Transportation found that general aviation generates $857 million in economic activity annually; and
Whereas, According to a 2013 Missouri Statewide Airports Economic Impact Study, general aviation supports 7,449 jobs statewide and sustains an annual payroll of more than $300 million; and
Whereas, General aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and
Whereas, The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and direct, Congressional oversight is necessary to ensure stable funding of this system; and
Whereas, Missouri is home to 55 repair stations, 6 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,732 student pilots, 1,610 flight instructors, and 95 fixed-base operators; and
Whereas, Many communities in Missouri depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Stephen J. Galliher, Mayor of the City of Sedalia, Missouri, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the State of Missouri and declare November to be “General Aviation Appreciation month” in the City of Sedalia, Missouri.
