    Proclamation

    WHEREAS, the city of Salt Lake City in the state of Utah has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
     
    WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports have an immense economic impact on the city of Salt Lake City; and

    WHEREAS, Utah is home to 46 public-use airports, which serve 7,969 pilots and 2,601 active general aviation aircraft; and
     
    WHEREAS, Utah is home to 43 fixed-based operators, 30 repair stations, 146 heliports, 20 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,731 student pilots and 1,510 flight instructors; and
     
    WHEREAS, general aviation in Utah contributes over $274 million to the state’s economy annually; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Utah’s economy, it improves the overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
     
    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and
     
    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ralph Becker, Mayor of Salt Lake City, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the city of Salt Lake City and declare March 2015 as:

    “General Aviation Appreciation Month”
