WHEREAS, the City of Salisbury in the State of Maryland has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organization and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport have an immense economic impact on Salisbury; and
WHEREAS, a 2015 Maryland Economic Impact of Airports study revealed general aviation airports in Maryland support more than $704 million in business-generated revenue; and
WHEREAS, Maryland has 35 public-use general aviation airports serving 7,782 pilots and 2,774 active general aviation aircraft, and general aviation airports support 6,317 jobs across the state; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Maryland’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jacob R Day, Mayor of the City of Salisbury, do hereby proclaim September 2016 as
“GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH”
in the City and encourage our citizens, government agencies and private businesses to join in recognizing this vital strategic resource to the City of Salisbury.
