CITY OF ROCKY MOUNT
OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
WHEREAS, the city of Rocky Mount in the state of North Carolina has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports, including Rocky Mount-Wilson Regional Airport, have an immense economic impact on the city of Rocky Mount and North Carolina is home to 72 public-use airports that serve 14,055 pilots and 5,451 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, the state is home to 65 repair stations and 11 FAA-approved pilot schools, 2,560 student pilots and 2,379 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation contributes an annual economic impact of over $2 billion to North Carolina’s economy and supports 15,460 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports North Carolina’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, David W. Combs, Mayor of Rocky Mount, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the city of Rocky Mount and declare the month of November, 2014 as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in the City of Rocky Mount.
