    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
    DECEMBER, 2014

    WHEREAS: the Town of Richmond in the state of Rhode Island has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation and local airports, including Richmond Airport, have an immense economic impact on the Town of Richmond; and

    WHEREAS, Rhode Island is home to 8 public-use airports, which serve 979 pilots and 345 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Rhode Island is home to 7 fixed-based operators, 5 repair stations, 30 heliports, 3 FAA-approved pilot schools, 214 flight students and 146 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Rhode Island contributes over $140 million to the state’s economy annually and supports 1,461 jobs; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation not only supports Rhode Island’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE: the Town Council of Richmond does hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the city of Richmond and declare December 2014 to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
