WHEREAS, the City of Richmond in the State of Indiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations, and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and the Richmond Municipal Airport contributes an annual economic impact $55,511,864 to the City of Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Indiana is home to 69 system airports that serve 10,125 pilots, and 3,151 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, the state is home to 72 fixed-based operators, 58 repair stations, and 4 FAA-approved pilot schools; and
WHEREAS, general aviation contributes an annual economic impact of $5.88 billion to Indiana’s economy and supports more than 32,000 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Indiana’s economy, it improves our overall quality of life by supporting emergency medial and health care service, assisting law enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Sally L. Hutton, Mayor of the City of Richmond, Indiana, do hereby proclaim June, 2014 as:
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in the City of Richmond, and recognize general aviation as a vital strategic resource to the City.
