GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
WHEREAS: the Borough of Pottstown in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS: general aviation and local airports, including Pottstown Municipal Airport, have an immense economic impact on the Borough of Pottstown; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to 129 public-use airports, which serve 15,637 pilots and 5,386 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is home to 77 fixed-based operators, 94 repair stations, 15 FAA-approved pilot schools, 3,043 flight students and 2,720 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Pennsylvania contributes over $1.3 billion to the state’s economy annually and supports 8,548 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Pennsylvania’s economy, it improves the overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
THEREFORE, I, Sharon Valentine-Thomas, Mayor of the Borough of Pottstown, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the Borough of Pottstown and declare October 2014 to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
