    MICHIGAN
    Proclamation

    WHEREAS, the City of Port Huron in the State of michigan has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports, including St. Clair County International Airport, have an immense economic impact on the City of Port Huron; and

    WHEREAS, Michigan is home to 230 public-use airports, which serve 14,112 pilots and 5,663 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Michigan is home to 121 fixed-based operators, 97 repair stations, 7 FAA-approved pilot schools, 2,480 student pilots and 2,445 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Michigan contributes over $4.1 billion to the state’s economy annually; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Michigan’s economy, it improves the overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Pauline M. Repp, by the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of Port Huron, and on behalf of the Councilmembers Archibald, Ashford, Cole, Harris, Lewandowski, and Ruiz, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Port Huron and declare October, 2014 to be:

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I do hereby set my hand and cause the Corporate Seal of the City of Port Huron to be affixed this 26th day of September, 2014.
