    The Council of the City of New Orleans

    WHEREAS, general aviation, the Lakefront Airport and the New Orleans Downtown Heliport have an immense economic impact on the City of New Orleans; and

    WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 62 public-use general aviation airports, which serve 5,696 pilots and 3,264 active general aviation aircraft, as well as 520 heliports; and

    WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 61 fixed-base operated, 37 repair stations, 520 heliports, 7 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,215 flight students and 870 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Louisiana’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED, We, the City Council of New Orleans, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of New Orleans and declare March as…
