WHEREAS, the City of New Iberia in the State of Louisiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports, including Acadiana Regional Airport, have an immense economic impact on the City of New Iberia; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 62 public-use airports, which serve 5,696 pilots and 3,264 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana is home to 61 fixed-based operators, 37 repair stations, 520 heliports, 7 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,215 flight students and 870 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Louisiana contributes over $966 million to the state’s economy annually and supports more than 9,300 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Louisiana’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
THEREFORE, I, Hilda Daigre Curry, Mayor of New Iberia, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of New Iberia and declare March 2015 to be
General Aviation Appreciation Month.
