MAYORAL PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
WHEREAS, the City of Montpelier in the State of Vermont has a significant interest in the vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organization and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and the Edward F. Knapp State Airport have an immense economic impact on the City of Montpelier; and
WHEREAS, Vermont is home to 11 repair stations, 2 FAA-approved pilot schools, 207 student pilots and 177 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, according to the Vermont Agency of Transportation, Vermont has 14 public-use general aviation airports. According to the FAA, these airports serve 1,267 pilots and 545 general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, general aviation supports 4,100 jobs in Vermont, resulting in $217 million in labor income; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Vermont’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.
NOW THEREFORE, I, John Hollar, Mayor of the City of Montpelier, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Montpelier and declare January as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in the City of Montpelier.
