    General Aviation Appreciation Month 2016

    WHEREAS, the City of Middleton in the State of Wisconsin has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Middleton Municipal Airport have an immense economic impact on the city of Middleton; and

    WHEREAS, Wisconsin is home to 119 public-use airports,which serve 9,278 pilots and 4,485 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Wisconsin is home to 85 fixed-base operators, 48 repair stations, 574 heliports, 7 FAA-Approved pilot schools, 1,587 flight students and 1,577 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, General aviation airports in Wisconsin contributes over $694 million to the state’s annual economic impact; and

    WHEREAS, “The World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration” will take place in Wisconsin July 25-31, 2016, as people from across the world converge to take part in the Experimental Aircraft Association’s “AirVenture Oshkosh;”

    WHEREAS, General aviation not only supports Wisconsin’s economy,but it also improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and

    WHEREAS, Middleton Municipal Airport/ Morey Field and the local EAA chapter will be hosting an EAA Fly-In Breakfast on Sunday, July 10, from 7:30 a.m. to Noon, and the public is invited to join on the fun.

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Kurt J. Sonnentag, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Middleton and declare July as
