WHEREAS: General aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operations of our businesses; and
WHEREAS: The City of Meadville has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft maintenance, educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS: There are 116 public-use general aviation airports including Port Meadville Airport, all of which are part of the essential system of airports serving the Commonwealth’s 16,175 pilots and 6,012 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS: Pennsylvania is home to 94 repair stations, 17 flight schools, 77 fixed-based operators, and 839 heliports; and
WHEREAS: General aviation in Pennsylvania supports over 8,500 jobs and has an annual economic impact of over $1.3 billion to the Commonwealth.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, John Christopher Soff, Mayor of the City of Meadville, Pennsylvania, do hereby proclaim general aviation as a vital local resource and strategically important member of our community. As such, we urge our state and federal officials to pursue economic and other policies that will continue to support the general aviation community and allow it to prosper.
