Town of Mansfield
WHEREAS: The Town of Mansfield in the state of Massachusetts has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institution, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS: General aviation and the Mansfield Municipal Airport has an immense economic impact on Mansfield; and
WHEREAS: According to the MassDOT Aeronautics Division, the state is home to 30 public-use general aviation airports. According to the FAA, these airports serve 7,968 pilots and 2663 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS: According to the Massachusetts Statewide Airport Economic Impact Study, general aviation airports contribute more than $516 million to the Massachusetts economy; and
WHEREAS: Additionally the same study found that general aviation airports in Massachusetts support 4,466 jobs and a total payroll of over $169 million; and
WHEREAS: General aviation not only supports Massachusetts’ economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS: The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; now
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Mansfield do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to Mansfield and declare May as General Aviation Appreciation Month in the Town of Mansfield.
