    General Aviation Appreciation Month 2016

    WHEREAS, the City of Mandan in the State of North Dakota has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Mandan Municipal Airport have an immense economic impact on the City ofMandan; and

    WHEREAS, North Dakota is home to 89 public-use airports, which serve 3,600 pilots and about 2,000 registered aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, North Dakota is home to 46 fixed-base operators, 15 repair stations, 310 heliports, 2 FAA-approved pilot schools, 731 flight students and 472 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation airports in North Dakota support more than $121 million in total economic output; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports North Dakota’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, land management, agriculture, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Arlyn Van Beek, President of the Board of City Commisioners of the City of Mandan, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Mandan and declare March, 2016 as
