    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH

    Whereas, Los Angeles County has a significant interest in the continued vitality of: general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; local airports have an immense economic impact on the county; and

    Whereas, California is home to 216 public-use airports, which serve 61,185 pilots and 29,890 registered aircraft; 631 repair stations, 505 heliports, 66 FAA-approved pilot schools, 12,033 flight students and 9,452 flight instructors; general aviation in California contributes over $18.2 billion to the state’s economy annually; and

    Whereas, The county’s own system of five general aviation airports is home to more than 1,600 aircraft, and contributes $140 million annually to the local economy; general aviation not only supports California’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to destinations quickly and safely; and

    Whereas, The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    How,therefore, be it resolved, That the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles hereby proclaims general aviation a vital strategic resource to Los Angeles County and declares January 2015 to be GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH.
