CITY OF LITCHFIELD, ILLINOIS
WHEREAS, the City of Litchfield, in the state of Illinois, has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and the Litchfield Municipal Airport have an immense economic impact on Litchfield; and
WHEREAS, according to the Illinois Division of Aeronautics, there are 98 public-use general aviation airports in Illinois. These airports support 14,177 general aviation pilots and 5,661 active general aircraft; and
WHEREAS, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers study, Contributions of General Aviation to the US Economy, general aviation supports 42,400 jobs in Illinois, resulting in over $3 billion in labor income; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Illinois’ economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.
Now Therefore, I, Steve Doughherty, Mayor of the City of Litchfield, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Litchfield and declare June as GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH in the City of Litchfield, Illinois.
