WHEREAS, the City of Las Vegas in the state of New Mexico has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports, including Las Vegas Municipal Airport, have an immense economic impact on the City of Las Vegas; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico is home to 63 public-use airports, which serve 4,562 pilots and 2,562 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in New Mexico contributes over $761 million to the state’s economy annually; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports New Mexico’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement; firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Mayor Alfonso E. Ortiz Jr., Mayor of the City of Las Vegas along with members of the governing body, hereby proclaim the month of September, 2014 as:
“GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH”
