    To Publicly Recognize

    General Aviation Appreciation Month 2016

    WHEREAS: The City of Knoxville, Tennessee has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS: General aviation, McGhee Tyson Airport and Downtown Island Airport have an immense economic impact on the City of Knoxville; and

    WHEREAS: Tennessee boasts a robust network of public commercial and general aviation airports, serving more than 12,000 pilots and 4,000 general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS: The nation’s aviation infrastructure represents a vitally important public benefit: General aviation supports Tennessee’s economy; it also improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, and firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely.

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Madeline Rogero, Mayor of the City of Knoxville, Tennessee, do hereby proclaim March 1-31, 2016 to be:

    General Aviation Appreciation Month 2016

    in our city and ask all citizens to join in this observance.
