Hawaii General Aviation
WHEREAS, General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farm; and
WHEREAS, the State of Hawaii has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, according to FAA data, Hawaii is home to 3,150 pilots and 488 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, according to a 2013 Hawaii State Airports Economic Impact STudy, general aviation supports 7,449 jobs statewide. Overall, Hawaii’s airport system supports 100,621 jobs with an annual payroll of $3.1 billion; and
WHEREAS, General Aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and
WHERAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents and important, public benefit and direct, Congressional oversight is necessary to ensure stable funding of this system; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii is home to 13 repair stations, 6 FAA-approved pilot schools, 622 student pilots and 656 flight instructors. In addition, there are 20 fixed-based operators in the state according to the AC-U-KWIK director; and
WHEREAS, many communities in Hawaii depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our State.
NOW, THEREFORE, I BERNARD P. CARVALHO, JR., Mayor, County of Kaua’i, State of Hawaii, do hereby proclaim General Aviation a vital resource to the State of Hawaii and declare December as
General Aviation Appreciation Month
