  • WHEREAS, the City of Hopkinsville in the Commonwealth of Kentucky has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation and Hopkinsville-Christain County Airport have an immense economic impact on the City of Hopkinsville; and

    WHEREAS, Kentucky is home to 53 public-use general aviation airports, which serve 5,827 pilots and 1,934 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Kentucky is home to 54 fixed-base operators, 40 repair stations, 215 heliports, 6 FAA-approved pilot schools, 1,028 flights students and 1,075 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Kentucky contributes over $1.6 billion to the state’s total economic output; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Kentucky’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Carter M. Hendricks, Mayor of the City of Hopkinsville, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource for our community and and declare July as:
