    WHEREAS: the city of Hopkinsville in the state of Kentucky has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation and local airports, including Hopkinsville-Christian County Airport, have an immense economic impact on the city of Hopkinsville; and

    WHEREAS: Kentucky is home to 59 airports that serve more than 6,500 pilots and 2,082 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS: the state is home to 37 repair stations and 5 FAA-approved pilot schools, 981 student pilots and 1,107 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation contributes an annual economic impact of more than $1.7 billion to Kentucky’s economy, and Kentucky airports support nearly 115,000 jobs; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation not only supports Kentucky’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    THEREFORE, I, J. Daniel Kemp, Mayor of Hopkinsville, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the city of Hopkinsville and declare July to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
