COUNTY OF HAWAII
WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives our our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS, the state of Hawaii has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, according to the FAA data, Hawaii is home to 3,150 pilots and 486 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, according to a 2013 Hawaii Statewide Airport Economic Impact Study, general aviation supports 7,449 jobs statewide. Overall, Hawaii’s airport system supports 100,621 jobs with an annual payroll of $3.1 billion; and
WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the state’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and direct, congressional oversight is necessary to ensure stable funding of this system; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii is home to 13 repair stations, 6 FAA-approved pilot schools, 622 students pilots and 656 flight instructors. In addition, there are 20 fixed-based operators in the state according to the AC-U-KWIK director; and
WHEREAS, many communities in Hawaii depend heavily on general aviation and community airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BILLY KENOI, Mayor of the County of Hawaii, do hereby proclaim the month of December, 2014 as
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
in the County of Hawaii and encourage all residents to join recognize general aviation as a vital strategic resource to the State of Hawaii.
