    General Aviation Appreciation Month
    November 2014

    WHEREAS, Gwinnett County has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations, and community airports; and

    WHEREAS, General aviation and local airports, including Briscoe Field, have an immense economic impact on Gwinnett County; and

    WHEREAS, Georgia is home to 106 public-use airports, which serve 18,325 pilots and 5,228 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Georgia is home to 97 fixed-based operators, 128 repair stations, 11 FAA-approved pilot schools, 3,008 student pilots, and 3,184 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, General aviation in Georgia contributes more than $1.2 billion to the state’s economy annually; and

    WHEREAS, General aviation not only supports Georgia’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, and disaster relief and transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Charlotte J. Nash, on behalf of the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, do hereby recognize general aviation a vital strategic resource to Gwinnett County and declare November 2014 to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
