City of Greeley, Colorado
WHEREAS, the City of Greeley in the State of Colorado has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations, and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and the Greeley-Weld County Airport contribute an annual economic impact of $94,091,266 to the City of Greeley; and
WHEREAS, Colorado is home to 76 airports that serve 17,819 pilots and 5,483 general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, the State is home to 40 charter flight companies, 69 repair stations, and 15 FAA-approved pilot schools operating 141 aircraft and providing 212 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation contributes an annual economic impact of $2.1 billion to Colorado’s economy and supports over 22,650 jobs; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Colorado’s economy, it improves our overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Thomas E. Norton, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of City of Greeley, Colorado, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Greeley and declare June to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
