State of Colorado
WHEREAS, the City of Grand Junction in the state of Colorado has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports have an immense economic impact on the City of Grand Junction; and
WHEREAS, Colorado is home to 61 public-use airports, which serve 17,435 pilots and 5,412 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Colorado is home to 70 fixed-based operators, 71 repair stations, 447 heliports, 9 FAA-approved pilot schools, 2,817 flight students and 3,528 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Colorado contributes over $2.4 billion to the state’s economy annually; and
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Colorado’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting, disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Phyllis Norris, by the power vested in me as Mayor of the City of Grand Junction, do hereby proclaim the month of June 2015 as
“GENERAL AVIATION APPRECATIION MONTH”
in the City of Grand Junction and urge all the citizens of the City to recognize general aviation as a vital strategic resource.
