THE OFFICE OF THE MAYOR
City of Grand Island
State of Nebraska
WHEREAS: the city of Grand Island in the state of Nebraska has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS: general aviation and local airports have an immense economic impact on the city of Grand Island; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska is home to 81 public-use airports, which serve 3,498 pilots and 2,013 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Nebraska is home to 71 fixed-based operators, 12 repair stations, 305 heliports, 3 FAA-approved pilot schools, 759 flight students and 494 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation in Nebraska has an economic output of $1.2 billion annually and supports 7,900 jobs; and
WHEREAS: general aviation not only supports Nebraska’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jeremy Jensen, Mayor of the City of Grand Island, Nebraska, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2015 as
“GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH”
in the City of Grand Island.
