    WHEREAS: General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms.

    WHEREAS: The State of New Hampshire has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and air port operators.

    WHEREAS: New Hampshire’s airport system includes 24 publicly-owned airports serving 3825 pilots and 2055 general aviation aircraft. According to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, there are 118 registered airports throughout the state.

    WHEREAS: General Aviation represents an economic impact that supports 8000 jobs in Washington, producing $412 million in payroll.

    WHEREAS: 8.8 out of every 1000 workers in New Hampshire are employed in the aerospace and aviation industry.

    WHEREAS: General Aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters.

    WHEREAS: Organizations like the Granite State Airport Managers’ Association, New Hampshire Pilots’ Association, the Alliance for Aviation Across America, National Business Aviation Association, National Association of State Aviation Officials, Aircraft Owners and Pilot’s Association and National Air transportation Association recognize and promote the interests and importance of aviation in New Hampshire and throughout the world.

    WHEREAS: New Hampshire is home to 11 charter flight companies, 23 airport repair stations, and one flight school. In addition, there are 17 fixed-based operators in the state.

    WHEREAS: Many communities in New Hampshire depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our state.

    WHEREAS: Gorham, New Hampshire is home to a community-based airport.

    THEREFORE: We, the Board of Selectmen of the Town of Gorham, New Hampshire, do hereby proclaim General Aviation a vital strategic resource to the State of New Hampshire and the Town of Gorham and declare March to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
