    Proclamation

    WHEREAS, the City of Galesburg, in the state of Illinois, has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations, and community airports; and,

    WHEREAS, general aviation and the Galesburg Municipal Airport have an immense economic impact on Illinois; and

    WHEREAS, according to the Illinois Division of Aeronautics, there are 98 public-use general aviation airports in Illinois. These airports support 14,117 general aviation pilots and  5,661 active general aviation aircraft; and,

    WHEREAS, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers study, Contribution of General Aviation to the US Economy, general aviation supports 42, 400 jobs in Illinois, resulting in over $3 billion in labor income; and

    WHEREAS, according to the same report, general aviation in Illinois contributes over $9 billion to the state’s total economic output; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Illinois’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW THEREFORE, I, John Pritchard, Mayor of the City of Galesburg, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of Galesburg and declare June as

    GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
