GENERAL AVIATION AND COMMUNITY AIRPORT MONTH
WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports like the Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) play a critical role in the economy of the state and in the lives of the citizens and businesses; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maryland and The City of Frederick have a significant interest in the continued vitality of the general aviation industry including aerospace businesses, aircraft maintenance and manufacturing, aviation education programs, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, a 2015 Maryland Economic Impact of Airports study found that general aviation airports in Maryland support more than $704 million in business-generated revenue; and
WHEREAS, Maryland has 35 public-use general aviation airports, serving 7,782 pilots and 2,774 general aviation aircraft. General aviation airports supports 6,317 jobs across the state including 1,059 jobs supported from the activities at Frederick Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters including rescue operations such as air ambulance transports such as Trooper 3 based at FDK and additionally Police, Warden and Mail services routinely utilize general aviation to support daily operations and communication; and
WHEREAS, Maryland is home to 22 fixed base operators, 13 charter flight companies, 24 repair stations, and 11 FAA-approved flight schools operating 71 aircraft and providing 112 jobs including Landmark Aviation, Frederick Flight Center, and Advanced Helicopter Concepts, located at Frederic Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Municipal Airport is a preferred corporate executive airport serving the Baltimore-Washington region with 90,000 aircraft operations annually including many from the more than 350 businesses using the airport each year.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Randy McClement, Mayor of Frederick, Maryland do hereby proclaim General Aviation a vital strategic resource to the State of Maryland and declare the month of September 2015 to be General Aviation and Community Airport Month in The City of Frederick.
