GENERAL AVIATION AND COMMUNITY AIRPORT MONTH
WHEREAS, general aviation and community airports like the Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) play a critical role in the economy of the state and in the lives of the citizens and businesses; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maryland and The City of Frederick have a significant interest in the continued vitality of the general aviation industry including aerospace businesses, aircraft maintenance and manufacturing, aviation educational programs, aviation organizations, community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, a 2013 Maryland Economic Impact of Airports Study by the Maryland Aviation Administration found that the annual economic impact of general aviation in Maryland is $551 million including $111 million from the Frederick Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, Maryland has 36 public-use airports , serving 7,782 pilots an 2,774 general aviation aircraft. General Aviation supports 6,274 jobs across the state including 1,300 jobs supported from the activities at Frederick Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, general aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters including rescue operations such as air ambulance transports such as Trooper 3 based at FDK, and additionally Police, Warden, and Mail service routinely utilize general aviation to support daily operations and communication; and
WHEREAS, Maryland is home to 22 fixed based operators, 13 charter flight companies, 26 repair stations, and 9 flight schools operating 71 aircraft and providing 112 jobs including Landmark Aviation, Frederick Flight Center, and Advance Helicopter Concepts located at Municipal Airport; and
WHEREAS, Frederick Municipal Airport is a preferred corporate executive airport serving the Baltimore-Washington region with 110,000 aircraft operations annually including many from many from the more than 350 businesses using the airport each year.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Randy McClement, Mayor of Frederick, Maryland do hereby proclaim General Aviation a vital strategic resource to the State of Maryland and declare the month of September 2014 to be General Aviation and Community Airport Month in The City of Frederick.
