  • PROCLAMATION

    WHEREAS: the City of Elkhart in the State of Indiana has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation and the Elkhart Municipal have an immense economic impact on the City of Elkhart; and

    WHEREAS: Indiana is home to 115 pubic-use airports, which serve 9,684 pilots and 3,675 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS: Indiana is home to 72 fixed-base operations, 58 repair stations, 650 heliports, 4 FAA-approved flight schools, 1,724 flight students and 1,655 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation airports in Indiana have an economic impact of $5.9 billion annually; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation not only supports Indiana’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement and firefighter and disaster relief; and

    WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    NOW, THEREFORE, I, Tim Neese, Mayor of the City of Elkhart, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the city of Elkhart and declare November as:

    “GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH”
