Maryland General Aviation Appreciation Month
WHEREAS: general aviation and community airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS: The State of Maryland has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS: A 2013 Maryland Economic Impact of Airports Study found that the general aviation airports in Maryland supports more than $704 million in business-generated revenue; and
WHEREAS: The State of Maryland has 35 public-use general aviation, airports, serving 7,782 pilots and 2,774 general aviation aircraft. General Aviation supports 6,317 jobs across the state; and
WHEREAS: general aviation plays a vital role in the state’s response to emergencies and natural disasters. Rescue operations such as air ambulance transports by fixed wing and rotor craft, in addition to to police, warden, and mail services routinely u utilize general aviation to support daily operations and communication; and
WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system; and
WHEREAS: Maryland is home to 24 repair stations, 11 FAA-approved flight schools and 22 fixed based operators in the state; and
NOW THEREFORE, I, Robert C. Willey, Mayor of the Town of Easton, Maryland do hereby proclaim September 2015 as
General Aviation and Community Airport Month
In Maryland, and do commend this celebration to all of our citizens.
