    PROCLAMATION

    Maryland General Aviation Appreciation Month

    WHEREAS:  General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and

    WHEREAS:  The state of Maryland has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, Aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and

    WHEREAS: A 2013 Maryland Economic Impact of Airports Study found that the annual economic impact of general aviation in Maryland is $550.7 million;
    and

    WHEREAS:  The state of Maryland has 36 public-use airports, serving 7,782 pilots and 2,774 general aviation aircraft. General Aviation supports 6,274 jobs across the state; and

    WHEREAS: General Aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters. Rescue operations such as air ambulance transports by fixed wing and rotor craft, in addition to Police, Warden, and Mail services routinely utilize general aviation to support daily operations and communication; and

    WHEREAS:  Maryland is home to 13 charter flight companies, 26 repair stations, and 9 flight schools operating 71 aircraft and providing 112 jobs. In addition, there are 22 fixed based operators in the state; and

    WHEREAS: Many communities in Maryland depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our State.

    NOW THEREFORE, I, Robert C. Willey, Mayor of the town of Easton, Maryland do hereby proclaim General Aviation a vital strategic resource to the State of Maryland and declare September to be:

    General Aviation Appreciation Month

    In Witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the Town of Easton, Maryland to be affixed this twenty seventh day of August in the year of our Lord two thousand and fourteen
