WHEREAS, general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational intuitions, aviation organizations and community airports all have a positive impact on our community; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and local airports have an economic impact of $1.78 million on the City and County of Denver, while the State of Colorado is home of 61 public-use general aviation airports, which serve 17,435 pilots and 5,412 active general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, Colorado is home to 70 fixed-based operators, 71 repair stations, 447 heliports, nine FAA-approved pilot schools, 2,817 flight students and 3,528 flight instructors; and
WHEREAS, general aviation contributes to the overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system.
NOW THEREFORE, I, MICHAEL B. HANCOCK, MAYOR of the City and County of Denver, Colorado, by virtue of the authority vested in me, do hereby officially proclaim JUNE 2016, to be known as;
“GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH”
