General Aviation Appreciation Month June 2016
WHEREAS, the City of DeKalb, in the state of Illinois, has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational instructions, aviation organizations and community airports; and
WHEREAS, general aviation and the DeKalb Taylor Municipal Airport have both had an immense economic impact on DeKalb; and,
WHEREAS, according to the Illinois Division of Aeronautics, there are 98 public-use general aviation airports in Illinois. These airports support 14,117 general aviation pilots and 5,661 active general aviation aircraft; and,
WHEREAS, according to the PricewaterhouseCoopers study, Contribution of General Aviation to the US Economy, general aviation supports 42,400 jobs in Illinois, resulting in over $3 billion in labor income; and,
WHEREAS, according to the same report, general aviation in Illinois contributes over $9 billion to the state’s total economic output; and,
WHEREAS, general aviation not only supports Illinois’ economy, it proves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destination quickly and safely; and,
WHEREAS, the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important public benefit and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, John Rey, Mayor of the City of DeKalb, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the City of DeKalb and declare June as “General Aviation Appreciation Month” in the City of DeKalb.
