  • GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
    PROCLAMATION

    WHEREAS: the Town of Culpeper in the state of Virginia has a significant interest in the continued vitality of general aviation, aircraft manufacturing, aviation educational institutions, aviation organizations and community airports; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation and local airports, including Culpeper Regional Airport, have an immense economic impact on the Town of Culpeper; and

    WHEREAS, Virginia is home to 66 public-use airports, which serve 14,354 pilots and 4,451 active general aviation aircraft; and

    WHEREAS, Virginia is home to 64 fixed-based operators, 48 repair stations, 454 heliports, 18 FAA-approved pilot schools, 2,790 flight students and 2,609 flight instructors; and

    WHEREAS, general aviation in Virginia contributes over $728 million to the state’s economy annually and supports 5,154 jobs; and

    WHEREAS: general aviation not only supports Virginia’s economy, it improves overall quality of life by supporting emergency medical and healthcare services, law-enforcement, firefighting and disaster relief, and by transporting business travelers to their destinations quickly and safely; and

    WHEREAS: the nation’s aviation infrastructure represents an important, public benefit, and Congressional oversight should be in place to ensure stable funding of this system;

    THEREFORE, I, Michael T. Olinger, Mayor of the Town of Culpeper, Virginia, do hereby proclaim general aviation a vital strategic resource to the Town of Culpeper and declare May 2015 to be General Aviation Appreciation Month.
