WHEREAS, General Aviation and Community Airports play a critical role in the lives of our citizens, as well as in the operation of our businesses and farms; and
WHEREAS, the state of Texas has a significant interest in the continued vitality of General Aviation, aerospace, aircraft manufacturing, educational institutions and aviation organizations and community airports and airport operators; and
WHEREAS, there are 391 public use airports in Texas, serving 49,616 pilots and 18,500 general aviation aircraft; and
WHEREAS, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, General Aviation in Texas supports more than 56,000 jobs, supports $14.6 billion in economic activity annually; and
WHEREAS, Texas is home to 389 repair stations, 44 FAA-approved pilot schools, 9,896 student pilots, 8.435 flight instructors, and 1,954 heliports; and
WHEREAS, General Aviation plays a vital role in the State’s response to emergencies and natural disasters; and
WHEREAS, many communities in Texas depend heavily on General Aviation and Community Airports for the continued flow of commerce, tourists and visitors to our State.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Nancy Berry, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of the City of College Station, Texas, do hereby proclaim General Aviation a vital strategic resource to the State of Texas and declare November to be
GENERAL AVIATION APPRECIATION MONTH
And call upon the citizens of College Station to recognize the vital strategic resource and economic boon that General Aviation provides to the State of Texas and to our community.
